Help Me Find . . .
As I mentioned a few months ago, I am working to shift my focus toward reporting on the contributions of Christian LGBTQ and intersex people to Church and society (rather than focus on debate). My aim is to do more profiles, interviews, educational book reviews, and historical archival research. But making that change is easier said than done. It’s so easy to get drawn into controversy and write a reactive post.
I just made changes to the layout of my Substack, which are visible on the desktop version. I’m not sure they show up on the app. I now have five primary categories:
Profiles & Interviews
Explore interviews and biographical sketches of LGBTQ and intersex Christians who are using their gifts and callings to make a difference.History of Christian Sexual and Gender Minorities
Explore movements, socio-historical trends, and archival treasures.Friends of Bakos
Meet affirming pastors and Christian leaders, as well as discover affirming churches and organizations. (Bakos is the name of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8.)Book Reviews
Learn about books on Christian LGBTQ leaders and LGBTQ history. I might also post educational book reviews related to sexuality and gender more broadly.Latest News
Watch for updates and announcements.
I am actively working to create a historical archive that preserves the history of Christian sexual and gender minorities, as well as captures living history. That effort is connected to the Bakos Project. Thus, I may cross-post relevant articles here and at Bakos Project. I’m hopeful these categories will help me to stay disciplined in subject matter for my essays.
Other Topics
Older post focused heavily on the Bible and sexuality. Those are still in the archive. I’ve also written discipleship and spiritual care posts for LGBTQ folk in the past. I still aim to encourage and engage spiritual formation, but primarily through spotlighting role models from the past and now. I’ve also touched on the topic of gender. Here is where these past posts are collected.
Following Jesus as an LGBTQ Christian
Find encouragement for living the Christian life. See also a special section on dating and marriage.Bible and Sexuality
Learn how to think about sex and gender in light of Scripture and God’s will for our lives. See also my classes. My class on Bible, Marriage, and Same-Sex Relationships is free to Founding subscribers. I just reduced the Founding subscription to make the class more accessible. The subscription covers both paid posts on this Substack and the 12-week video on demand course.I am seeking to become better informed when it comes to my transgender, nonbinary, and intersex siblings. I’ve written a few posts. Future articles will focus more on profiles or book reviews. I will likely create a course on understanding gender at some point.
Uncommon Saints Podcast
I am still working to edit a few interviews I’ve done. I hope to post those soon and on-going.
It will take time for the archive of this Substack to gradually reflect the new direction. But in time, I’m hopeful that this approach will do more to advance the well-being of LGBTQ people.

I have found your writing to be a calm non anxious presence in a world of provocation. Thank you Karen. I’m looking forward to what you’re working on.
